WSH Forum for L&T Sector went virtual and kickstarted the Drive Safe, Work Safe Campaign

More than 300 senior managers, supervisors and safety professionals attended the very first Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) e-Forum for the Logistics and Transport (L&T) Sector, organised by the WSH Council, on 1 September 2020. This e-forum also kickstarted the WSH Council’s Drive Safe, Work Safe Campaign 2020 with a short video that reminded workers to take care of their health to prevent vehicular accidents.

In his opening remarks, Mr Dave Ng, Co-Chairman of WSH Council (L&T) Committee, reminded the industry of the importance of upholding WSH amidst managing the pandemic situation. Mr Ng also shared about the incorporating of fleet safety management solutions in the refreshed Logistics Industry Digital Plan. He encouraged SMEs to tap into the government’s Productivity Solutions Grant for funding support in the adoption of these solutions.

The audience also took away learning points on good WSH practices shared by the guest speakers:

• Representatives from Sin Chew Woodpaq Pte Ltd and the Ministry of Manpower shared on the integration of Safe Management Measures (SMM) into WSH and how its implementation looked like on the ground, as well as some of the common contraventions identified during the SMM inspections respectively.
• YCH Group Pte Ltd has leveraged technology by adopting the Automated Storage Retrieval System (ASRS) to better manage its warehouse operations and uphold safety. Unlike conventional methods of warehousing, the ASRS operates in a human- and traffic-free environment, thus eliminating common warehousing risks such as working at height for cargo inspection and order picking, incidents caused by poor traffic management within the worksite, and the risk of objects falling. The ASRS also prevents the spread of COVID-19, since its operation requires minimal human contact.

During the e-forum, participants also took part in the Campaign persona quiz, to find out how healthy they really are to stay safe at work. As participants candidly shared their results, they learned more about tips and resources to improve their health, and were reminded to take time to take care of their safety and health at work.

Special recognition was also given to the companies and project teams that participated in the WSH Innovation Awards 2020 for the L&T Sector.
