On 11 April, the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council launched a new Community of Practice (CoP) for Top Executives aimed at creating a peer-to-peer network where leaders across industries at different junctures of their journeys can better understand WSH and effectively convey what they have learnt to their organisations. The CoP also serves as a platform to influence contractors on how large service buyers value WSH performance among their contractors as a key consideration in future collaborations.

Senior Minister of State for Manpower, Mr Zaqy Mohamad, graced the launch of the CoP. In his Opening Remarks, he emphasised that for companies to implement WSH well and sharpen vigilance, good leadership is key as senior management shapes the culture, priority and resource allocation on WSH.

SMS Zaqy, together with Ms Ng Weiyu, Delivery Center Manager, Singapore Well Testing Center (SWTC) and Pressure Pumping and Conveyancing Center (PPCC), SLB, Mr Tee Yang, Assistant Vice President, Transformation and Safety, Jurong Port, and Mr Deya Dubey, Energy, Projects & Construction Practice, WongPartnership LLP, also engaged the CoP members via a panel discussion. Together, they offered government, business, and legal perspectives on cultivating a proactive WSH mindset beyond compliance, aiming to catalyse ideas for members to build a safety-driven culture within their respective organisations.

Rounding up the engagement session, CoP members exchanged insights with each other via roundtable discussions, and dove deep into topics centred on leadership in WSH and how to incorporate WSH into corporate strategy.

Concluding the meaningful event, WSH Council Chairman, Mr Abu Bakar Mohd Nor, highlighted that while leaders shoulder responsibility in growing and strengthening WSH culture, buy-in from all stakeholders, including employees, is crucial. He reminded leaders to lead by example, influence change, and foster a culture where WSH is prioritised by all.
